FAMILY AUDIENCE OPERA: The Family Audience Opera website features 7 original operas by award-winning composer/librettist Edward Barnes, created especially for young and family audiences. Called "hip-hop cool" by the Los Angeles Times and "engaging and emotionally forceful" by the San Francisco Chronicle, the operas blend traditional grand opera with contemporary American pop, rock and Broadway styles, exploring meaningful themes through bright and entertaining stories. Most of the operas are short, 30 minute one-acts. The casts of each piece use adult and/or young performers and can be accompanied by piano or with instruments. Several of the operas feature optional children's percussion bands and one opera includes breaks for "commercials" meant to be created by school or children's groups.
